What’s it all about?
The Night Of is an eight part crime drama set in New York City. It follows Naz, a seemingly naïve Pakistani-American college student who resides in Queens with his family.
One night, Naz borrows his father’s cab to drive to Manhattan to attend a party which is being hosted by some of the popular people who attend college with him.
However, being mistaken for a genuine cab driver, Naz picks up a young woman, Andrea and the two become acquainted. Following a night of sex, drugs and games of jeopardy, Naz wakes up and finds Andrea brutally stabbed to death in her bedroom. He has no recollection of the night.
Naz immediately flees Andrea’s apartment leaving behind a mountain of evidence that pins him to the crime. Shortly after, Naz is arrested for a minor traffic violation.
If I go any further, I would just spoil it for you!
What’s the verdict?
After watching the first episode last night, I am absolutely hypnotised by The Night Of. Director Steven Zaillian cleverly steers the show into a very dark place and drags you right with it. Every move Naz makes is manipulatively magnified and it makes you question everything. While it seems obvious that Naz is guilty, you become incredibly suspicious of EVERYONE because assuming it was Naz may be too obvious. It could be that Naz’s reserved character is a ply to fool you but one thing is for sure, I am dying to know how this show plays out.
While the show airs every Thursday on Sky Atlantic for the next seven weeks, the entire series is available to watch on Sky Box Sets. Honestly, I think it’s one of those shows that you need to binge watch. It’s much too good to wait! Then again, maybe all that waiting and suspense will make it all the better!
If you love extremely intense crime shows, then The Night Of is definitely a show you need to see. You won’t be disappointed, trust me!
