Fendi’s Ethereal Fall 2016 Couture Show

The brand celebrated their 90th birthday with an extravagance only Karl Lagerfeld would dream of creating. A glass runway was placed over the fountain’s water to make it look as if the models were walking on water, which was fitting for a fountain whose sculptures which represent the God Ocean.

The show was inspired by a collection of fairy tales called East of the Sun and West of the Moon. Originally published in 1914, it is a collection of Norwegian tales. It was the Taschen published reprint of the collection last December that influenced Lagerfeld.

With the influence of such a beautifully illustrated book, Lagerfeld created other worldly looks with soft outlines and textured patterns that looked at home in the outlandish runway setting. Each look was paired with calf cutting heeled boots, giving these elegant looks a contemporary style.
