Chris Rock bags $40million Netflix deal for two stand-up specials

Comedian Chris Rock has just bagged himself a deal we imagine was impossible to refuse. American streaming service, Netflix have just promised the comedian a whopping $40 million for two brand new stand-up comedy specials.

Following the deal, Rock has been named the highest paid stand-up comic, with this being the first time in 8 years to perform. Netflix have reportedly outbid Amazon, Hulu and HBO for the rights to the specials which will not be taped until early 2017.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos spoke to the press about his excitement to be working with Rock,

“Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand up makes him comic royalty, There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent.”

Netflix have hit the jackpot as this will be the biggest name they have scored yet, hence the outstanding $40 million deal. Vice president of original programming and comedy, Lisa Nishimura, said she felt that Rock’s two specials will “take things to the next level,” making Netflix the “preeminent destination” for stand-up.

Chris Rock has just hosted the 88th Annual Academy Awards and has recently guest-starred on Fox’s hit show Empire and has performed at the ‘Roots Picnic’ in NYC alongside John Mayor and Aziz Ansari.

The specials won’t hit our screens until sometime in 2017 so hold tight.

For now, we’ll just continue to re-watch some of his old performance’s like his monologue on SNL back in 2014 . Yes, we miss this guy!
